It's not 'goodbye'... It's "see you later!"

I've been deep in the midst of a little 'blogging crisis' and I've decided that a good part of that is because I've been feeling as though I've "outgrown" skinnybitching. I really have no desire to post here and I'm giving up on trying to force myself. I'm also tired of my blog having that little 'Skinny Bitch' link to my college days and I'm ready to move on and "grow up" a bit in the cyber world.

SO- I've decided to start up a shiny NEW blog, Between The Bottles, which I am VERY excited about. I whole-heartedly invite any and all of you, who many be even teeniest bit interested, to follow me on over.

Hope to see you there!

XO,
LC

day 7! and i'm on day 3! go figure.

so... i've decided i'm just going to skip the posts on parents and siblings. even though i absolutely adore my parents, i do enjoy some sense of privacy, so i'm going to keep them just for me. and.. well... i'm an only child. so, there goes that post!

but... i will share 2 of my favorite pictures. the first is my darling kitty chloe. this is ju
st a snap shot i took some random saturday morning, while playing with our new camera. it makes me laugh because it's so 'typical chloe'. grumpy and adorable.
my 2nd "favorite" picture is one of our wedding photos. i suppose it's kind of odd that this is one of my favorites, as it really could be anyone, but it just makes me smile. i love that you can see our rings, the detail of my dress, and my perfect bouquet. plus (nerd alert) it just gives me that safe feeling... being all wrapped up in hubby's hands.
as far as movies go... i'm really not one for obvious humor. my sense of humor is dry, and that's the way i like my movies. i tend to favor either older movies or indie movies over "blockbusters"or commercial productions. my absolute favorite is 'the sure thing"... a john cusack movie, circa the year i was born. it's ridiculously hilarious and incredibly smart at the same time; my favorite line being "how would you like to have a sexual encounter so intense it could conceivably change your political views?". other favorites include "me and you and everyone we know", "an education", "vicky christina barcelona", "factory girl", and "lars and the real girl". those are only a few of course. remember when i said i was a self admitted music snob? yeah, well... same goes for movies.

i see i've also missed 'a place i've traveled'... how about where i'm ABOUT to travel and have traveled A MILLION TIMES BEFORE??? my bed!! the duvet cover is new, and my mom wanted to see a picture of it on the bed. i couldn't keep the kitties off long enough to snap a kitten free picture, and of course the one that best showed the linens, also included butt licking......................... sweet dreams everyone!

day 4 became day 3

well... i fell a day behind. shocker... i know.

so yesterday (aka day 3) i was supposed to talk about my first love. i thought about trying to be 'funny' and writing a post about shoes or booze or leonardo dicaprio. but, i ultimately decided to just go sappy on you. i understand if you feel the need to throw up.

my "first love" is my one and only... good old mr. husband. he's not one of those romantic, sappy, chocolates and flowers kind of guys.... which is what i love about him. he's normal and i can just be normal around him. we've been together for almost 8 years... married for almost 3... and i love how we haven't become 'that married couple'. you know, the ones that would rather stay at home in our sweatpants with our asses planted on the couch in front of some crappy reality television. i also love how we are so COMPLETELY different in so many ways, but at the end of the day, we adore each other for who we are, while still wanting the same things for our lives together.

(and b/c we all need more 80s in our lives.... here's one of our really ridiculous songs)

...a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...

day 2 of 'ye olde blog challenge' is tell the story behind my blog's name. i am sorry to break the news, but there really is no great story here. i'm skinny. i'm a bitch. i love bitching?

i suppose i could get a bit more involved than that. during my college years some of my friends started calling me 'skinny'. the name stuck... and a few people still do refer to me as that. around the same time, lindsay lohan as photographed wearing a t-shirt that said 'skinny bitch' across the front... a friend got me said tshirt for something (maybe my birthday?)... and the rest is history.

when i started my blog, someone else had already nabbed the 'skinnybitch' URL... so i just tacked on an 'ing'. skinnybitching was born... and the rest is history!

(also- please excuse the awful circa 2004 picture. it's the only one i can find of me in THE shirt)

i'm baaaaaaack...

yay, right?

i haven't blogged in about 5 months. it's not that i don't want to blog anymore... it's just that it's been SO LONG and i've found that getting back into it has been a lot harder than i thought it would be. i still check in on tons of blogs almost daily... i've started a few new posts... i really don't know what my problem is.

SO- when going through blogs today, and clicking over to the juice is worth the squeeze, i saw that she was taking part in a "30 day blog challenge". my thought? PERFECT!! what better way to get in the habit of blogging than having something specific to focus on blogging about??? so there you have it... i am jumping on board. the 'original' challenge can be found here...and if you're having the same problem i'm having... i suggest you check it out!

anyways.

on to day 1: recent picture, 15 interesting facts:
(moi)

so there's my picture and here are my interesting (or not so interesting, who are we kidding) facts:

1. i have a sick obsession with mtv's 'teen mom'. normally reality tv isn't my thing, and mtv REALLY isn't my thing, but i can't help myself. i don't sit down and watch it religiously, but i usually catch the 'marathons' on sunday mornings while i'm eating my oatmeal. i'll watch until they start playing 'jersey shore'. that's when i'm slapped back to the reality and turn off the tv. i. can't. stand. jersey. shore.

2. my husband and i have been married for almost three years and we have no desire to have a baby.... yet. a lot of people seem to think that's weird and 'something must be wrong with us'. but, we're too busy enjoying ourselves and each other. ask me again in five years... and maybe then we'll be ready.

3. i might be an alcoholic. i drink too much wine... if there is such a thing. i typically go through a few bottles a week, which is probably terrible for me, but indulging in my apartment isn't hurting anyone else... so why stop?

4. i also have a sick obsession with j.crew. the sales people at my store may or may not know me by name. same goes with sephora. oh.. and the guy at qdoba. he knows my order. (chicken nachos, no beans, queso, salsa verde, sour cream, extra cheese... fyi).

5. i'm a self-admitted music snob and i judge people based on their musical tastes. i would never be 'mean' to you... but if i find miley cyrus, or any other crappy pop, on your ipod... i'll probably think a little bit less of you.

6. i have a serious problem with panic and anxiety, because of which i've had to give up my coffee addiction. for the same reason, i should probably cutback on my wine intake, but i think everyone should have at least one vice.

7. I LOVE JOHN CUSACK!

8. i'm terrified of butterflies, the new york subway system, and the movie 'candyman'.

9. i'm also (moderately) terrified of elevators. i take the stairs whenever possible, even if it means hiking up 5 flights of stairs. i heavily judge anyone who takes an elevator to only go up a floor or two or three... unless of course you have a load of groceries or you're a paraplegic.

10. i love my cats more than i love the human race.... of course, with the exception of my husband, parents, grandparents and a select few friends... then i love them equally.

11. halloween is my favorite holiday. not because i'm into all that ghost and goblin crap, but because i LOVE dressing up. this year i have two costumes. first, for my husband's MBA halloween party, he and i are going as don & betty draper (from mad men). for that costume, i've been slowly collecting vintage pieces from the 50s and 60s and am SO EXCITED to wear it. my second costume is for my sis-in-law's annual party and i'm going as 'raspberry tart'. this costume is less involved, but i am SO EXCITED about that i might have purchased it last december.....

12. my favorite food is vanilla cupcakes, my favorite book is 'i know this much is true', my favorite movie is 'the sure thing', my favorite song is 'safety dance', and my favorite color is gray.

13. in college, i majored in literature and creative writing, because i loved reading and writing so much. but after four yeas of having it forced down my throat, i'm on again/off again with reading, and haven't written anything fictional since 2006.

14. my mother is my absolute very very very best friend in the whole entire world. i talk to her, at least, three times a day and would rather hang out with her than most of my friends.

15. when i first moved to my apartment a year ago, i was trulymadlydeeply in love with it. now, it's so small that it feels like the walls are crushing in on me and I CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE. i just wish i knew where it is that i'll be moving too.... but, i'll just have to wait and see where husband finds a job after graduating.

home again.

"I’ve never cared for sightseeing, landmarks bore me, but thrust me into the day-to-day happenings of friends, acquaintances, and friends of friends and places really come alive."

actually, i've been home since monday morning- my lazy ass just hasn't gotten around to blogging. new york was amazing.... naturally. shouldn't that just be a given? hubs and i spent loads of quality time together and also got in a few fun nights out with some great friends. i love my new york friends.

my plane got in thursday evening and i had reserved a car to pick me up from the airport to take me to D's dorm- yes, you heard that correctly... dorm. the car turned out to be a blessing. i waited for about 5minutes before it came, and then proceeded to sit in air conditioned comfort for the long trip in too manhattan. i say long... because i (lord knows why) booked a flight that landed right during the beast of rush hour.

i forgot to snap a picture of D's dorm... but saying 'dorm' is really giving it
too much credit. i think our pantry is bigger. it's literally the length of an XL twin bed and the width of the bed, a desk, and a closet/cupboard. let's just say thursday night was a little squishy... and i woke up with bruises on my knees... and not for good reason.

friday, D had to work, so i spent the day with some of my favorite people in new york. we marched along the high line park, had an amazing lunch in the meat packing district, and hung out at a random little park in the east village. hung in the park that is... until a bum fight broke out. we fled before knives were drawn, and retreated back to their apartment and enjoyed the AC until D got off work and was able to meet us. we went to dinner and grabbed a few drinks in soho with some more friends... and retreated back to our HOTEL ROOM to get 'a good nights sleep'. i have never been so happy to see a king sized bed in my life. one night, crammed into a twin, will do that to a girl.

(friends @ high line!)

saturday we woke up bright and early... i mean, at noon... and grabbed a quick brunch. are you allowed to still call it brunch at noon? we then spent a better part of the day wandering around chelsea and D took me to all his new neighborhood favorites. i fell completely in love with chelsea. i could DEFINITELY see us living there if we end up moving.

saturday night we met back up with the friends i spent friday with. all i can say about saturday night is... holy shit show. the four of us downed an embarrassing amount of wine, molested the merrill lynch bull, and ended our evening with a 2am bar food feast. you know, because our amazing italian dinner, where we sat outside and overlooked the statue of liberty just wasn't enough.

(poor bull)

sunday was my last day... and it started with a massive hangover. although, i did stumble across one hell of a glorious cure. sunday afternoon nap in central park. hubs and i snuggled up in a patch of shade under a tree and i'm pretty sure we actually fell asleep for a few hours. but really, how can you feel like hell when you're overlooking this?
(god i love central park)

after an early dinner and a tearful goodbye... yes, i am a girl and i do sometimes cry... i was off and back to wisconsin. the only downside to my trip was that it really left me missing D. it was like a little tease... here's husband... now he's gone. muahahaha! oh well... at least i have less than a month to go before i'm back!

packing is hard.

i'm attempting to pack for new york... and have been for the past several hours. so far i've packed 2 dresses, 2 pairs of heels, and some underwear.

oh! i just added a skirt.

yet.. somehow my entire summer wardrobe is flung around my room and condensed into various piles on the bed. which, my cats are nesting in. not sure where i'm sleeping tonight....

i suck at packing.

pseudo-single & catching up

i said i was ready to start being a good little blogger again and i'm intending to stick too it! so i suppose that means i should fill you all in with a little about what's been going on in my life, right? well... it's not really all that exciting.

i believe i'd mentioned in a previous post that the husband got an internship in new york this summer (yay!!) meaning that i've been solo since the end of may (boo!!). it's actually not as bad as i thought it was going to be. i obviously miss him, but it is rather enjoyable to have a bed too myself... watch what i want to watch, when i want to watch it... and, shocker: when i clean our apartment... IT STAYS THAT WAY! i've also been able to keep myself busy (i don't have a free weekend until early august!) and i've gone ahead and booked myself two trips to go and visit. the first this coming weekend and the second at the end of july. he comes home mid-august, so we're really not going to be going more than few weeks apart at a time.

and.. those trips to new york... my absolute favorite city on the planet? i. can't. wait. not only do i get to the hubs, but one of my very very best life long friends lives in the city, and i'm going to squeeze in a little girl time with her as well! two birds... one stone... love.

speaking of girl time... another one of my very very best life long friends (hehe) and i have a date this saturday night. we're getting dinner at swig, my FAVORITE restaurant in milwaukee and then heading out for a drink or two or five or twelve. we also decided that since it's finally summer and the weather is finally warm and delightful.... we need to wear dresses.

this afternoon, j.crew so kindly sent me an email saying that there were new items in stores and online. what good timing! how did they know i just so happened to be in the market for a new summer dress? that j.crew... i tell 'ya.

anyways- i instantly fell in love with this little number. i HAD to run to the store and try it on after work and i was not disappointed. the dress fit perfectly and is even cuter in person than it was online... in my opinion.

i love that it has a 'removable' sash at the waist, so it's not quite as boxy looking...
and i love that the ruffles down the front are a noticeable two-tone...

so now, i'm ready for girls night... i'm almost ready for new york (possibly a few more wardrobe staples may need to be purchased), and at this exact moment, i'm ready for a date with my couch, two cats, a bottle of wine, and 1980s john cusack ala 'say anything'.

um.... hi?

so yes.... i do realize that i've taken quite the... um... hiatus (?) from blogging. apparently. i have a tendency to do that. sorry- to anyone who may still be interested... which at this point... is probably no one.

regardless, i've decided to declare the hiatus to officially be over. (wohoo!)

i've also decided that this little blog needs a tad more "direction". i'm not entirely sure what all that will entail, but i'll do my best to actually make it interesting.... as opposed to the random and somewhat incoherent blurbs about nothing in particular, that apparently only pop up once every few months.

i love time changes....

...why one might ask? well... it's pushing 7pm, the sun is still a-shining, all my windows are open (hello 57 degrees!) and i have a lovely glass of shiraz keeping me company. i'm not going to lie... there's not much else a girl could want on a sunday evening.

especially when that sunday is the closer of a pretty awesome weekend. and... especially when that weekend involves WIG PARTIES.

dragqueens, the future, and board game prostitution.

i suppose i will start this post by saying that this has been an epically awesome weekend... for quite a few reasons.

first off, i successfully managed to drag the husband off to a "dungeons and dragqueens" party, hosted by one of his fellow classmates. what is a "dungeons and dragqueens" party one might ask? well, when it comes right down to it... it's really just a drag show with a clever title. and, who are we kidding... i love me some queens. i'm still amazed i was able to convince hubs to go. i'm still amazed how good gay men are for the ego.

example:
in reference to leaving the bar and walking under the GIANT icicle tbat was precarioiusly dangling over the entrance way...

me: if i leave, with my luck, that icicle is going to kill me.
dashing gay man: you are far too adorable to die like that.
me: i hope death agrees.
dashing gay man: darling, with a body like yours, how could he not?

i do belive there was more to that conversation, but given the healthy dose of vodka i'd consumed, i can't quite remember it. aside from the fact that we both agreed that no one, with the exception of the queen on stage, should ever wear animal print. ever. well, unless maybe you're a prostitute.

anyways... moving on to quite possibly the absolute most exciting part of this past weekend.

husband was FINALLY offered a summer internship... at a really really great company (that is the producer of several products that i can guarentee are lurking somewhere around your home)... and it is in NEW YORK CITY. i mean, we are talking about smack dab in the middle of manhattan and all it's epic gloriousness.

yes, i do understand that this means i will be on my own all summer (with the exception of as many trips to NYC as work will allow me)... BUT... as long as the intership goes well and he doesn't royally fuck up, he can pretty much guarentee on being extended an offer for employment upon gradutation.

and what does that mean?

this girl finally has a shot in hell at getting the fuck out of the midwest and into my absolute favorite city on the planet. and that... is enough to make this quite possibly the best weekend ever. i've already picked out my apartment for fall 2011. i've done the whole suburbia thing... it is absolutly not for me... bring on a real city.

oh.. and board game prostitution. hmm. given the fact that a few members of hubby's family are apt to read this... i guess i wll sign off with... is it so wrong that i am willing to sell myself for a shot at winning when it comes to some good 'ol milton bradley family fun?

i think not. and... did i mention NEW YORK?? i am positivly in am empire state of mind... apparently w/ a side of cheese.

i'm a sucker for aveda (and... well, everything... but, that's a whole new post)

i'm an easy sell, i'm not going to lie. if a shiny happy salesgirl comes up to me and has a new great product to offer.... odds are i'm going to buy it. this is why sephora is a very very VERY dangerous place for me. it's also dangerous because MY sephora has a delightful salesGUY that looks like russell brand. russell brand can get me to buy anythng. russell brand could get me to do anything.... and, i mean anything (err.. the REAL russell brand could, watch out katy perry. i'm prettier than you anyways). sorry husband. i would marry russell brand. but anyways... this story isn't about russell brand OR sephora... so, moving on.

aveda. i love it. i love love love love love it. the way it smells... the lovely things it does for my hair... the way the bottles look (did i also mention that i'm a sucker for great packaging as well?)...

i went into my aveda today with the intentions of buying ONLY shampoo and conditioner. that's it. nothing else. no lipgloss... no eyeshadow... just haircare. however, while on my way to the "shampure" section... i happened to wander on past the skincare section.

of course, the sales lady was on me like white on rice... and before i knew it, she had me thrown into a complete sales pitch. asking about my skincare concerns... taking me through the entire line of products... testing them out on my hand... becoming my new bff....

and then i bought the entire line.

we can add aveda to the list of stores that rape my wallet. so $97,000 later i got my shampoo... and a whole lot of other delights. oh... and i paid $10 for the "aveda club thing" (no, that's not what it's actually called).. but, all my dollars spent add up and turn into points that get me free treats! i like free treats.

and.... apparently i like pretty aveda sales girls with a good pitch almost as much as like my russell brand at sephora.

whisker city: or, boys are gross.

while the husband first started his winter break in december, to be funny, i dared him to grow a beard and not shave until he started class again in mid-january. he agreed, and my normally smooth faced honey began his transformation into a lumberjack.

surprisingly (and i say that b/c normally dispise any type of facial hair beyond a little scruff), i loved it. he loved it too... beard stayed, and will continue to stay. it's nothing long or obnoxious, he keeps it neatly trimmed, and quite frankly, it looks awesome on him (even if his mother doesn't think so- heh). so what's the problem you ask?

beard trimmings.

all. over. my. sink.

ALL. OVER.

i just finished up my little mid-week bathroom wipe down and had a near panic attack when i took full notice of what this morning's trim had left behind- little stubbles aaaallll over my vanity. and not just ON the vanity itself, i found a few little guys in my ring dish, on my aveda spa candle, on the hand towel, and even IN THE TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER. this has got to stop.

so, in my little fit of rage, i informed my dear husband that if the beard is to stay (which i want it too... b/c i really really love it) he's going to have to learn to clean up after himself. i mean, it's just common courtesy that if you make a mess (esp one involving body hair) you should be cleaning up after yourself. he tried to argue that leaving his whiskers in the sink is the same as me leaving my makeup bottles and brushes around the sink. uh, no... it's not. i also think this is why god invented double sinks.

oh, and yes... i will be getting out a NEW toothbrush.

Thursday, February 4, 2010

apparently i haven't blogged in awhile....

...whoops, my bad?

i guess i just haven't had anything going on lately that i've been able to deem 'interesting' enough to blog about... and, i don't have the time to blog at work, which used to be my prime blogging time. plus, i'm really fucking lazy.

so i guess it's about time i get back in the habit.

however, tonight i have nothing more inspiring to ask than....

is it so wrong that i size people up based on the quality of their
handbags?

and on that note... i promise to make an effort to not suck in the future.
