don't drink and cook.

for dinner tonight, i am making a beef and beer stew, out of real simple. it smells completely amazing and has been in the oven, stewing away, for about two hours. per the recipe, after two hours, it's time to take the stew out, add the potatoes, and put it back in the oven for another twenty minutes.

(oh, i forgot to mention, that when i started cooking, i decided to pour a glass of wine... because i always like to have a glass of wine while i'm cooking. and, while, for the past two hours i've continued with that trend. i have a pretty good buzz going. don't judge me.)

anyways.. the two hour buzzer went off and i took the pot out of the oven and set it on top of the stove. i add in the chunks of potato, grab my wooden spoon to mix them in, grab the pot handle to hold the pot still whilst stirring... OW! OW! MOTHERFUCKING OW! THAT GODDAMNED POT IS ABOUT 350 DEGREES!

i scream in pain. drop the spoon. and completely forget what you're supposed to do when you burn yourself. dave is laughing hysterically, b/c he knows fully well that i'm half in the bag, and i've lost my appetite.

ugh.

i've managed to get the potatoes in, the pot back in the oven, and the timer set for the remaining twenty minutes. this better be some damn good stew.. my hand fucking hurts.

i'm pretty sure my hand is blistering. i'm pretty sure i hate stew. i'm pretty sure i love wine... except when it impairs me in the kitchen
don't drink and cook kids, don't drink and cook.

  1. Yeaaah, I lit myself on fire Thursday night making dinner and drinking wine. I was boiling water for pasta and used one of the front burners, had it all the way on high because it takes forever for water to boil in this condo. Reached up above the stove into a cabinet up top to get my coffee set up for the next morning (I'm highly efficient that way) and the bottom of my shirt caught fire. Thankfully, no permanent damage done to my skin, but $5 Old Navy long sleeve t-shirt is dunzo. Be careful Skinny. And next time Dave is sitting there laughing, just throw the spoon at him.

  2. I guess this weekend was a bad weekend for everyone to cook!! Saturday, while making bread to have with our homemade chicken noodle soup, I leaned a little to far forward over the stove when the hot pizza stone sat. I burned my stomach pretty badly. Then, I was talking to P while hanging a cigarette out of my mouth, dropped it and burned my boob!!

We started drinking at 5 that day, and have also decided not to drink and cook!!

  3. Wow...that was a close one. Double the wine and forget the stew...that should help the pain go away, at least until tomorrow.
